2026 Term 2 Message
30 March 2026
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I sincerely hope that everyone had a good term break and first week of Term 2! As we dive into an exciting and enriching term, my colleagues and I look forward to continuing our partnership in developing our Admirals holistically.
We have been talking about building a “We First” mentality and society for some time now. In my first letter to all parents this year, I highlighted that at Admiralty Primary School, we have embarked on our “Be Admirably Kind” movement since the start of 2025, and we certainly intend to double down on our efforts in this area this year. One might ask: why are we spending so much time and effort in this area? Before I answer this question, I seek your indulgence in a simple thought experiment. Let’s imagine a Singapore 30 years from now. You and I will be in our 70s/80s, with some of our younger parents in their 60s. Most, if not all of us, would probably be dependent on our children to care for us as we age. In this era, what would you say are the characteristics of a successful Singapore? What are the key traits that will allow our Admirals to thrive in a Singapore of the Future, and how would you hope they would treat us? Let’s pause and think deeply about this for a while.
For me personally, a successful Singapore ought to be innovative, inclusive, united and caring. I firmly believe that a successful Singapore would comprise of a citizenry that cares for, and works alongside, one another to co-create a future for everyone. We must hence be values-driven and put kindness and respect – for others and self – at the centre of everything we do. To succeed as a school, society and nation, we cannot afford to be individualistic and self-centred. In my last letter, I also mentioned that kindness does not take place only through big and eye-catching acts. The simplest gestures done in consistent ways are often the most effective in helping us achieve the best results.
Towards the end of Term 1 and since the start of Term 2, my colleagues and I have been emphasising to our Admirals that when we meet one another in school, we ought to greet each other with a bright smile and cheery “Good morning!”. This might be a very simple act, but when performed consistently and with sincerity, it brings warmth to the person on the receiving end and certainly helps to create a welcoming and warm environment. After I had reminded the students early last week, the greetings increased noticeably, and the bright smiles from our Admirals certainly made my day!
I would appreciate the help and partnership of all my teachers and parents to impress upon our children to perform these acts of kindness consistently in school and at home. Simple actions and routines like greeting one another, coming to school on time and making our bed when we wake up, when performed consistently, turns into good habits. Over time, these good habits would help shape a positive culture, and it allows our Admirals and the school to leave an everlasting legacy. In a nutshell: Routines → Habits → Culture → Legacy. It is my wish to create a school environment where we can all partner each other to bring out the best in our children; to empower our Admirals to build an everlasting legacy at Admiralty Primary School. Thank you!
Yours faithfully,
Mr Chen Zhongyi
