2026 Term 4 Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back to a new term! You might have noticed that I left the same quote intact at the top of this letter, and I have done so for emphasis on what matters to us at Admiralty Primary School. My letter last term focused on the importance of growing our sense of pride and belonging as we build a strong school community. Continuing with this theme of Community, my message this term focuses on another important aspect of school life: school is not only a place where our children learn academic content, but also where they learn to relate with others and live together as part of a community. Living together would require everyone to learn about forbearance, forgiveness and of course, making mistakes and learning from them.

One way to build a strong community would be to anchor ourselves upon a common language: our school’s five Core Values of Graciousness (G), Responsibility (R), Integrity (I), Teamwork (T) and Grit. Over the course of the year, our Admirals experience and live out these values through the various activities that our school has planned for them. They do so alongside their friends and fellow Admirals.

The first of our Core Values – Graciousness – stands out for me and is especially relevant to our topic of Community.  We would expect a gracious Admiral to be kind in his words, actions and deeds. A gracious Admiral shows compassion and chooses kindness even when it may not always be easy. It is our hope to develop every Admiral to become an empathetic leader and compassionate citizen, true to our school’s vision and mission. Let me share one clear example of how our Admirals demonstrated graciousness and compassion this year. In May, while a group of Primary 5 Admirals travelled overseas for an internationalisation programme, the rest of the cohort had a different but equally meaningful learning experience in Singapore. They hosted preschool visitors in school. Learning for both groups of students went well beyond their textbooks and they picked up memories, experiences and skills that they will remember for life. In the lead-up to the actual visit, our P5 students worked together to plan meaningful and engaging activities for the preschoolers. On the day itself, they stepped confidently into their roles as caring big brothers and sisters. They patiently guided the young children around the school, demonstrating through their actions that empathetic leadership begins with serving others. Our Admirals showed us that kindness and graciousness have the power to build bonds and create a welcoming community. This is what our Admirals are capable of, and I am very proud of them.

As we enter this final term of 2026, there will naturally be some anxiety and focus on assessments and examinations, particularly for our P3-6 students. But let us remember that education is much more than academic achievement; positive relationships and values will always outlast academic outcomes. Let us emphasise and role-model for our children what positive relationships and good values look like – through the way we speak, act and interact with one another. With graciousness, respect and wisdom. Thank you and wishing everyone a meaningful Term 4!
